Kent grew up in a small town in Indiana with a very loving, godly family. But it wasn't until he attended graduate school at Auburn University that he was exposed to Chi Alpha and saw people his own age passionately serving Jesus. Their example, along with the work of the Holy Spirit, reoriented his priorities from serving only himself to asking how he could serve Jesus. Kent served several years as a student leader while working on his doctorate in chemistry, and in 2000 decided to transition from chemistry to ministry. He did eventually complete his PhD in chemistry in 2003 while on staff with Chi Alpha at Auburn University.
Currently Kent is serving as part of a team seeking to plant new college ministries on unreached campuses around the West Coast. He is using the teaching, writing, and researching skills he gained as a PhD chemist to train, equip, and resource others for campus ministry.
